he Departments of Oral Medicine & Radiology and Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology, Annoor Dental College and Hospital, successfully conducted a workshop on “Tobacco Cessation in Dental Practice” for III BDS and Final Year Part I students on 2nd June 2026.
The program commenced with the release of an educational awareness video, followed by a series of informative sessions by faculty members. Dr Giju George Baby (Principal) highlighted the importance of tobacco cessation in dental clinics, Dr Hima John (Professor, Dept. of Oral Medicine & Radiology) discussed the mechanism of tobacco addiction, Dr Deepu George Mathew (HDD, Dept. of Oral Pathology & Microbiology)spoke on effective brief tobacco cessation counseling, and Dr Bharath Mohan (Sen. Lecturer, Dept. of Oral Medicine & Radiology) delivered a session on the pharmacotherapy of nicotine replacement treatment. Dr Ashna Biju (Sen. Lecturer, Dept. of Oral Medicine & Radiology) presented the diagnostic signatures of substance abuse, while Dr Jiss Mary G (Reader, Dept. of Oral Medicine & Radiology) emphasized the role of history taking and oral self-examination in early detection. The program concluded with the “Say No to Tobacco” pledge led by Dr Pooja Latti (HOD, Dept. of Public Health Dentistry)
The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members and served as a valuable platform for strengthening the role of future dental professionals in tobacco cessation and oral cancer prevention.
