On the occasion of World Cancer Day, a dental screening camp was conducted at District Jail, Kakkanad, on February 4, 2025. The camp was organized by IDA Kerala State in collaboration with IDA Tripunithura Branch, the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Oral Pathology and Oral Microbiology, Oral Medicine and Radiology at Annoor Dental College & Hospital, and Karkinos Health Care Pvt Ltd. The primary objective of this initiative was to raise awareness about oral cancer, promote early detection, and encourage preventive measures among the jail inmates. The camp was formally inaugurated by Dr. Moni Abraham Kuriakose, Founder and Medical Director of Karkinos Healthcare Pvt Ltd. Additionally, a Health Awareness Talk was delivered by Dr. Deepu George Mathew (HOD, Oral Pathology, Annoor Dental College, Muvattupuzha), emphasizing the importance of oral cancer screening and overall oral hygiene. The following events were conducted at the camp:
1. Oral screening was performed on patients.
2. Toothpaste was distributed among the patients.
The World Cancer Day Camp was a remarkable success, with active participation and positive engagement from the community. Many inmates expressed their appreciation for the initiative, showing a renewed commitment to maintaining good oral health. The event successfully achieved its goal of raising awareness about oral cancer and emphasizing the importance of early detection and prevention.
