National Dentist Day Dental Camp – Mar Stephen VHSS, Valakom
Every year, National Dentist Day is celebrated on 24th December in India in remembrance of Dr Rafiuddin Ahmed, who is known as the Father of Modern Dentistry in India. On this occasion, a dental screening and treatment camp was held at Mar Stephen VHSS, Valakom, on December 26th, 2024, for the general population. It was organized by NSS unit of St. Peter’s VHSS, Kolenchery in association with the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Annoor Dental College and Hospital, aimed at creating awareness about oral health and highlighting the role of dentists in maintaining people’s oral health. The camp began with a warm welcome speech delivered by Mrs Mary Giju, Principal of St. Peter’s VHSS Kolenchery. The camp was inaugurated by Adv. Mathew P Paul , Managing Director of St. Peter’s VHSS Kolenchery, followed by a felicitation speech by Dr. Giju George Baby, Principal , Annoor Dental College and Hospital. A Health Education Talk was delivered by Dr Pooja Latti, Professor and HOD, Department of Public Health Dentistry, Annoor Dental College and Hospital. The dental team consisted of 11 members, including staffs, final-year part 1 students, and third year students and supporting staff. The following events were conducted at the camp:
• Oral screening was performed on 46 peoples.
• Treatment was rendered to 1 patient in the treatment van.
• Toothpaste and Toothbrush distribution were distributed.
• One-on-One demonstration of Toothbrushing techniques were provided.
• Necessary medications were given to patients in need.
• A Dental Exhibition was conducted.
The camp was held from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm. The dental team reached back at college campus by 2:00 pm. All patients were provided with a referral card to avail further treatment at the college. The camp was successful and proved to be highly educative for the attendees.
